Mark Kapral is in his fifth year as Assistant Director of Bands, Percussion Director and Marching Band Director at North Gwinnett High School. Prior to working at North Gwinnett, Mark held positions as Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director at Milton High School, Assistant Band Director at Northwestern Middle School and Band Director at Summit Hill Elementary School in Milton, Georgia. Under his leadership the Milton High School percussion program became nationally recognized as they were awarded the Scholastic A Class Bronze Medal at the 2008 WGI World Championships and they were also a Scholastic Open Class Finalist at the 2010 WGI World Championships and a Scholastic World Class Finalist at the 2011, 2012 and 2013 WGI World Championships.
During the 2013-2014 school year, Mark served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Alabama. His responsibilities included instructing and writing for the “Million Dollar Band” Drumline, conducting the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Women’s Basketball Pep Band and the Gymnastics Pep Band. Mark also worked with the Summer Crimson Music Camp.
In 2005, Mark earned his Bachelor Degree in Music Education from Georgia Southern University. While attending Georgia Southern, Mark was a member of several ensembles as well as the lead drumline instructor and arranger during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Mark also led the drumline to a 3rd place finish at the PASIC Marching Percussion Festival in 2003.
Mark is an Vic Firth Percussion Education Artist and he currently enjoys teaching private lessons, writing marching percussion music and he is a founding member of the new Georgia Indoor Percussion Association, which began its first season of competition in 2015.
